I’m writing on a day off from my two-week stint as a vagabond musician loose in the Midwest. What a weekend! I started out at a house concert in Milwaukee on Friday with Charlie Cheney, which was the greatest way to kick off the tour. If you know me at all by now, you know I’m a sucker for a house concert; throw in some chicken/monkey songs, good beer, and a lot of people speaking French, and I was in heaven. Plus I made some new friends.
Saturday morning at the Fort Farmer’s Market never fails to be absolutely enjoyable (although waking up at 6:30am on a Saturday is kind of a drag). I met a lot of new people, and got to see a few old friends too. After the market, I made my way to Madison with one of the best roadies I know (thanks Mom!), and prepared for the show at Mother Fool’s. I was opening for Danielle Ate The Sandwich, and it was so much fun. I saw a lot of Madison people that I hadn’t seen in wayyyy too long, and Danielle and I ended up having such a good time that we decided to do it again on Monday at Brewed Café on Brady St. In between those two shows, though, I had to stop by O’Donoghues in Elm Grove and sing for Jamie and the rest of the bar. That show was excellent because my dad and I were playing as our musical-and-sometimes-crime-fighting-alter-egos, The Nendalls. (It was the one and only stop on our Farewell Reunion Tour.)
So now here I am, sweltering in the muggy heat of Wisconsin summer, and feeling pretty good. I have one more day off and then I’m off to Minneapolis on Thursday to play at the Acadia Café at 8:30pm as part of their DEMO Showcase. I got a little shout-out today from the host of KFAI’s “Womenfolk” program, Ellen Stanley; she played “Head West” and then plugged the show and it made me feel very special.
And then after Minneapolis, I’m going to Steel Bridge Songfest, baby! It’s in Sturgeon Bay and tickets are $20 for the weekend, and when you get there and see what incredible music there is to see, you’ll realize what an unbelievable bargain that is.
I’m running all over the place, which reminds me: if you’re on Facebook (and who isn’t these days?) you should go to www.facebook.com/carleymusic and be a fan. I try to update all my sites equally but I have to admit that Facebook tends to have the most up-to-the-minute Carley Baer news on the Internet. So, go there and do it. And if you come to a show and say hi, I might even let you be my friend.
See you out there! xo
